1966 Texas Western Captain Harry Flournoy Dies at Age 72
Flournoy came to Texas Western from Gary, Indiana in 1962 and was an early recruit of legendary Miners coach Don Haskins. From 1963-66, Flournoy was part of some of TWC's most memorable teams. He averaged 5.3 points and 7.9 rebounds as a sophomore, 6.8 points and 11.8 rebounds as a junior, and 8.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game as a senior. His action shot rebounding against Kentucky's Pat Riley is the infamous cover photo for the iconic Sports Illustrated issue recapping their historic national championship win.
He was a mainstay at every Texas Western reunion and very active on social media with fans until his health started to decline last year.
