Yelp Names El Paso Restaurant among ‘Top 100 Places to Eat in Texas’

If you are going to eat at just one El Paso restaurant this year, Yelp says make it El Taquito on Airway.

The crowd-sourced local businesses reviews site has named the Mexican food eatery one of the "Top 100 Places to Eat in Texas for 2021." El Taquito at 1422 Airway is number 32 on the list.

And that's it. Only one. In all of El Paso.

The Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio areas were represented multiple times on the list. Heck, there are 19 from the Houston area alone. But El Paso? One. Welp, Yelp.

El Taquito was also the only restaurant in the 915 to make the list the last time they did it in 2019. It came in at number 37 that year.

We have not just some of the best Mexican restaurants anywhere in the state, El Paso has great restaurants, period. So how is it only ONE lands on a top 100 list?

Their methodology is how. According to Yelp, the list was determined “using a number of factors including the total volume and rating of reviews between January 1, 2016 and April 16, 2021.” In other words, there are not a whole lot of El Pasoans posting restaurant reviews on their site.

I hope it's not coming off like I'm trying to take anything away from El Taquito. Good on them, you know?

I've never eaten there, but by all accounts the majority of those who have find the place to be legit. And for sure my belly and ever-expanding waistline are going to make their way there sooner than later based on just the food-porn photos Yelpers have posted alone.

But, only one in the top 100 in all of El Paso?
