There are plenty of folks out in the world who will sit here and debate about TV Wrestling being real or not. I'm not one of those guys. The way I see it, you have world class athletes putting on a well thought of and planned show that happens to be entertaining. Let's face it, there are simply things you can't fake. One of the masters of the craft just happens to call Amarillo home and these days Terry Funk may not be doing so well.

Terry Funk's ties to Amarillo start when the family moved to the golden spread shortly after World War II. Both he and his brother Dory Jr. attended then West Texas State University where they both played football. It was not long after that they were also involved in the then Western States Sports promotion headquartered here in Amarillo which actually had matches at the News Channel 10 studios at one point! Western States had affiliation with the National Wrestling Alliance. Terry Funk's career also came with stops at All Japan, The WWE (Then WWF) along with World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling. He is currently a member of the WWE Hall of Fame having been inducted in 2009.

Terry also made an appearance in a film or two. One of my personal favorites was his appearances in Road House.

His health has been on the Decline

Terry Funk's health has been on the decline that only seems to have sped up after the passing of his wife Vicki back in 2019. The legend has even asked fans to stop sending memorabilia as he can no longer has the strength to sign them. Former Wrestler Don Muraco first came out with the news about Funk's dementia last Friday which was passed on from Funk's fellow WT Alum Scott Casey. The news was later confirmed by his manager through his official twitter account:

The support came in quickly from the WWE and many other wrestlers.

We certainly are pulling for Terry here and We'll keep you updated but tonight just give a little quick word for the Funk.
