Eastwood graduate and Western New Mexico senior golfer Valeria Enriquez was named the recipient of the first-ever Golf Balls 915 scholarship for her excellence on the golf course and in the classroom.

"It means to much to me," said Enriquez in regards to community support she has received. "I've been golfing in college for four years and I've never seen a scholarship done like this. It's amazing to see how the community comes together. I work over summers full-time at my school and for the El Paso community to care about its students, it's amazing."

Upon graduating from Eastwood, where she was coached by Jonathan Stovall, Enriquez spent her first seasons of college golf at McLennan Community College under coach Jones Mitchell. She then transferred to WNMU, where she is preparing for her senior year with head coach Kent Beatty.

"Coach Beatty does an amazing job at helping out El Paso golfers," she said. "This coming season we have three El Paso girls on the team, all from Eastwood."

Throughout her college career, Enriquez has been a four-time All-Team academic recipient with an impressive 3.75 GPA  as a marketing major. She has put together a top-five finish and a pair of top-10 finishes in three separate tournaments.

Golf Balls 915 put this scholarship together with the help of local golfers and community donations. Enriquez was awarded $1,000 for the inaugural scholarship.

"Golf is more than a sport. People use it to network, to socialize, you make so many connections and especially being a woman from El Paso, you meet so many new people," said Enriquez.
