If El Paso Locomotive FC returns to the pitch next month for the 2020 season, the details have already been decided. Jeff Rueter, who covers the United Soccer League for The Athletic first broke the story on Twitter, followed by official statements from the USL and the USL Players Association.

According to a press release sent out by El Paso Locomotive FC, July 11th is the target return date for the league and Rueter also reported that teams will not play matches in a hub like MLS announced earlier this week with Orlando.

"The process to get to today’s vote has been a very deliberate and thoughtful one to ensure that, first and foremost, we proceed in a manner to appropriately manage the health and safety of all concerned,“ said MountainStar Sports Group President Alan Ledford in the official team release. "This decision further solidifies and demonstrates the commitment of USL Championship to our communities and to establishing itself as a premier professional soccer league. On behalf of all of us associated with Locomotive FC, we thank our fans and this community for the amazing support we’ve received during a very challenging time for us all."

The USL's return will be made in conjunction with all local and state health guidelines. The league is conducting regular talks with the USLPA about the safety of the athletes along with wellness protocols. In the meantime, it is the best news that Locomotive FC fans could get, since it looks like they will be the first sports team to return to action in El Paso.
