USA Shuts Out Puerto Rico 8-0 To Win Their First WBC Championship
Last night, the USA World Baseball Classic Team defeated Puerto Rico, with a dominating 8-0 win to claim their first WBC title. Puerto Rico came into the championship game undefeated, and had actually beat the U.S. in the second round of group play 6-5.
The WBC MVP, Marcus Stroman, started the game for the U.S. and pitched 6 innings giving up 1 hit, getting 3 strikeouts and allowing no runs.
The bats came to life in the 3rd inning when Ian Kinsler hit a 2 run homer, which set the tempo for the U.S. offense throughout the game.
Finally winning a World Baseball Classic, Americans can feel a little more confident calling baseball "Americas Pastime."
On a sad note, we might have seen Jim Leyland manage for the last time but what better way to end a Hall of Fame Career.
As for team Puerto Rico, well they'll have to wear that runner-up cap for another 4 years.
