Tornillo vs. Fabens High School Game Canceled Due to Threats Against Team
Tonight's football game (September 28th) between the Tornillo Coyotes and the Fabens Wildcats has been canceled due to threats made against the Tornillo team, according to Tornillo Coyotes Facebook page. The situation was rumored to be called in earlier this morning. My mother works for Tornillo Elementary and gave me a heads up about threats being made. A couple of hours later, a Tornillo Facebook page did release a statement:
Tonight's game would have been Fabens' big homecoming game but it will not be happening. My heart goes out to the Fabens seniors who will not get to play their big homecoming game, which is a big moment for most players and fans. Throughout the years, the Tornillo and Fabens rivarly has grown. When these two meet on the field, it is usually a good game to watch. No one gives our small towns credit, but our players sure have passion and heart.
According to Tornillo's superintendent, Rosa Vega-Barrio they have canceled the game an a precaution. The El Paso Sheriff's Department is investigating the situation.
