Who doesn't want to win the lottery? The thought of winning an absolutely RIDCULOUS amount of money is appealing. Especially with a grand prize of 1.21 BILLION DOLLARS. Not a million, BILLION with a capital B. But your chances of winning are small... how small? According to an CNBC interview with Harvard professor Dr. Mark Glickman, your chances of winning are 1 to 292... MILLION.
Yet people still buy tickets in hopes of winning. So I propose to you some likely events to happen in El Paso that both Veronica & I came up with:
  • You have a much better chance seeing a non-crowded Chico's Tacos than winning the lottery:

It's no surprise that El Paso loves Chico's Tacos, some people would even choose it as their final meal. But the problem is... EVERYBODY loves it. so you're extremely likely to go on a day where every table is packed with people. The day where Chico's is not completely packed is the day I decide to buy a lotto ticket.
  • You have a much better chance not destroying your tires in construction zones than winning the lottery:

How many times has this happen to you: you're driving along & get stuck in a construction zone. And then... you feel a bump & see THIS:

I absolutely HATE when that happens. I can guarantee that something like that has happened to YOU or someone you know. If we can go for a week. No.. a DAY where no one gets their car ruined thanks to a construction zone (or see something insane on the road), that's when I'll get a lotto ticket.
  • You have a much better chance seeing The Mars Volta perform in El Paso than winning the lottery:

Now we love The Mars Volta. They're arguably the greatest band to ever come out of El Paso. But... when was the last time they performed here? According to Setlist.FM, the last time they were here was back in 2008 at Club 101. Now it's possible they've come back later than that but they haven't been back here recently. They don't have any El Paso dates for 2022 either. I know they're huge stars but come back guys. El Paso misses you...
  • You have a much better chance not getting caught in rush hour during the week day than winning the lottery:

Right around 5pm is the worst time to be on the highway. Whether it's I-10, US-54, Loop 375... everyone leaves around that time & more often than not, you're bound to get stuck in traffic. I'm not talking about holiday traffic, I'm talking about a normal Monday or Tuesday afternoon. I'd be shocked to see a single day where the traffic ISN'T stacked up in bumper to bumper traffic.
  • You have a much better chance listening to the Buzz Adams Morning Show without any political talk than winning the lottery:

Yeah you knew this one was coming. Now to be fair, Buzz HAS eased up on the politics on the show. But every so often, a political issue gets talked about & people call in and it becomes part of the show. Speaking from personal experience, I love when the show is just focused on the entertainment. But politics still come up every now & then. Maybe one day we'll have a day where the show goes off without ANY talk of Biden or Trump.
Maybe...
  • You got a much better chance of your car window catching an El Paso Chihuahuas hitter than winning the lottery:

Go to any Chihuahuas game & fans are READY for a game. Plus you have to be ready for any balls flying into the stands. You also have to be ready to protect your car from any balls flying OUTSIDE of the ball park. With being located in downtown El Paso, it's sort of a prime spot for your car to catch a hitter too. Veronica herself has said that people have in fact had their car get smashed with a flying baseball. It doesn't happen often...but it does... way more than often than winning the lottery.
  • You got a much better chance at KLAQ bringing back an event than winning the lottery:
Oh trust me... we've seen the memes & we've seen your comments. And yes we too miss events like Downtown Streetfest,

or Balloonfest,

or the Great River Raft Race. We would love for those events to come back; unfortunately the pandemic really put a damper on things. But it's possible that one day... one of these events will come back... hopefully..

Now of course nothing is impossible. Heck you might be lucky enough to win the lottery while enjoying a non-crowded Chico's Tacos lunch on the same day Mars Volta is back performing here in town. You never know...
