About 85,000 requests for vanity plates were made in Texas in 2021. That means that over 10% of requests were denied.

Here are some of the requests that the state DMV said no to. See if you can guess WHY they were disallowed.

P000PS

BQQBS

OLD AF

TX-CHICK

LETZGOB

The DMV says that requests for vanity plates can be denied if they refer to sexual acts, vulgarity, references to drugs or alcohol, or make a political statement. Also, “references to bodily fluids or excretory functions”. So, no poop jokes on your Texas license plate.

So I guess P000PS, BQQBS, and OLD AF were denied because they had some reference to a bad word, body part, or bodily function. But why wouldn’t they let someone have TX-CHICK? Is “chick” considered an offensive term?

If you spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what LETZGOB meant, you’re not alone. I spent at least 10 minutes sounding it out what “let’s gob” meant before figuring out that it’s supposed to be read as, “let’s go B”. You know, as in “let’s go Brandon”. I guess it got denied for being a political statement.

This story reminded me of a short-lived TV game show from the Eighties. It was called “Bumper Stumpers” and it was literally people trying to figure out what made-up vanity plates were trying to say.

This show was more 80s than Alf doing the moonwalk while drinking a New Coke and shouting “Where’s the beef?” Just check out this insanity.
