Last weekend, the city saw various high school teams kick off their fall sports season amid the coronavirus pandemic, and most notably, the football season began.
Hours before kickoff of the Friday night high school football slate, Ysleta Independent School District sent out a release to close off all athletic activities to only athletes, coaches, game officials and administrators, citing the rising COVID-19 cases in El Paso.
The 2020 high school football season has officially kicked off in El Paso, with a full slate of games set for Friday night and some key matchups for week one.
