Three Decades of On-Air at Townsquare Media

From the first time he cracked the mic in 1995 on the KLAQ Morning Show with Buzz Adams, to hosting the longest-running daily sports talk host in El Paso history, Steve Kaplowitz has been at the center of the city’s biggest sports stories. Through UTEP sports coverage, high school athletes, different professional teams in town and interviews at legendary sporting events like the Super Bowl Radio Row and HBO Boxing, Kappy's steady presence behind the mic has made SportsTalk a daily tradition for generations of listeners.

We Want Your Memories

As we prepare for this once-in-a-career event, we’re asking for your help.

Have an old photo with Kappy? Maybe from a remote broadcast, a tailgate, or just hanging out at a game? Send your best photos to kappys30th@gmail.com by Wednesday, June 25th to be featured in a special tribute that will honor Steve’s legacy on the airwaves and in the community.

What to Expect

The event at King’s X will bring together former SportsTalk guests and workers, sponsors of the stations and longtime listeners to celebrate the man who set the standard for El Paso’s sports radio culture. It’s a public event and we’ll be sharing moments and highlights online and on air.

Instead of a usual broadcast that afternoon, listeners can tune in for a special edition LIVE from King's X, featuring interviews, surprise segments and stories from throughout Kappy's career.

So, on behalf of Townsquare Media, here's the first of many congratulations to Steve — and thank you for bringing sports to life for this city, every single day.
