It was late in the 4th quarter of the NFL Thursday Night Game when the unimaginable happened.  In fact there were :05 seconds left in the game.  With the Cleveland Browns winning 21-7 and the Pittsburgh Steelers with the ball, Browns Myles Garrett and Steeler QB Mason Rudolph got tangled up with one another.

Being that they are AFC North divisional rivals, it is not uncommon to see some bad blood between the two athletes.  What happened next was nuts.  Garrett managed to pull off Rudolph's helmet and with many teammates trying to separate the two men, Garrett hit Rudolph with his own helmet.

NFL fans everywhere flocked to social media to voice their opinion.  Even OJ Simpson got into the act.

Myles Garret said that he "didn't think it would overshadow the win."  Browns QB baker Mayfield said the act was inexcusable.  On Friday the NFL laid down some heavy fines and suspensions for those involved:

  • The Steelers and Browns organizations have also been fined $250,000 each.
  • Steelers lineman Maurkice Pouncey has been suspended three games and Browns lineman Larry Ogunjobi for one game.
  • Myles Garrett has been banned for the remainder of the regular season and postseason, the NFL said. He also must meet with the commissioner's office prior to being reinstated next season.
