The New England Patriots had a little fun Wednesday, releasing a "Back to the Future"-themed video complete with a DeLorean that looks like it was plucked right from underneath Michael J. Fox's orange life preserver vest.

The video begins with center David Andrews, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, special teams captain Matthew Slater and linebacker Matthew Judon stumbling on the DeLorean, and punching ahead to Sept, 1, 2022.  They are initially dressed in the standard red, white and blue colors of the modern-day Patriots.

When they arrive three months into the future, however, their gear turns from the current uniform to the fan-favorite red throwback uniforms from the magical 1985 Super Bowl season.

The uniform is complete with the Pat Patriot logo on the helmet.  The message is clear.  The future season will include the throwback jerseys ... and helmets!

Toward the end of the video, NFL Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, a key player in the 1985 AFC Champion team, makes an appearance in the piece, insinuating that he may be the conduit between the past and present Patriots.

Who knows? Maybe Tippet is traveling back to the days of Steve Grogan and Craig James. If so, he may want to pass along a message to Raymond Berry to come up with a better game plan to stop the Chicago Bears and their Super Bowl Shuffle.

It's not clear when the Patriots will wear the throwbacks. There is no game scheduled on Sept. 1, 2022.
