In the wake of the Walmart shooting that destroyed the lives of so many of our fellow El Pasoans, there was the outpouring of love. Celebrities shared their shock on Twitter, residents of our wonderful city lined up to donate blood and supplies for first responders and those who were affected by the shooting, and memes began circulating online with messages of support and hope.

Saturday's shooting at the Walmart by Cielo Vista Mall began at 10 in the morning when a person who had traveled from a town outside of Dallas began shooting at completely innocent people who were just going about their business. Some were shopping for back-to-school supplies, some were shopping for groceries, there was a soccer team out in front of the store raising money for their team. No one could have expected the horror they were about to experience.

In the hours that followed, the suspect was taken into custody, people began looking for their loved ones at the family reunification center at MacArthur school just a few blocks from the Walmart, and people began to take to social media to express their fear, their shock, and their support for our community.

We will never forget August 3, 2019. We will never forget the victims who died in the shooting. We will never forget and will strive to help those who were wounded and their families who will need so much support. Most importantly, we will never let hate overtake our city. The Walmart shooting is not who we are. We will show the world that El Paso is a city of love, nothing else.
