Man Sets Oak Tree at Toomer’s Corner on Fire after Auburn Beats LSU
In the hours following Auburn's 18-13 win over LSU, a man started a fire that engulfed one of the oak trees at Toomer's Corner after he lit a piece of toilet paper.
Surveillance video captured the moment a man in black walked up to the tree that had been rolled after the SEC victory. You can see him intentionally lighting the end of a roll and walking away quickly.
He turns around for a moment as the fire begins spreading and a woman even confronts him before he runs off. Here's that video.
As you can see, it didn't take long before the entire tree became engulfed in flames. The fire department eventually arrived and put out the fire.
Auburn AD Jay Jacobs confirmed via Twitter on Sunday morning that the person responsible had been taken into custody by police.
No additional details on the man's identity have been released.
The Tigers held on during a dramatic finish to upset LSU on Saturday night. It was the school's first home SEC win since 2014.
