El Paso Locomotive FC will finally resume their regular season Saturday night when they host RGV FC Toros at Southwest University Park. The Locos are coming off of a season opening draw against their biggest rival, New Mexico United (1-1).

Forward, Leandro Carrijo came in as a late substitute and was able to score the equalizer in buzzer beater fashion to give El Paso its first point of the season for the draw.

What caught my attention almost as much as his dramatic goal, was the comments he made regarding the Locomotive fans in the post match press conference. After being asked what it was like to have Southwest University Park filled at 70% capacity with fans, Carrijo was eloquent in acknowledging the Locos fan base.

Carrijo commented, “For us the players it's important to get the result, but it’s equally as important to have our fans present. We have to show them our fight and best effort because they make an effort and sacrifice to come out and support us. We have to fight for our team, our fans and our families. Having their presence in the stadium is very important for us.”

The El Paso striker, with those comments, showed an appreciation and consideration for the fans that isn’t heard of enough in this town by other local sports teams. Carrijo showed once again, as he has for the last 6 years, his affinity for the people of the Borderland ever since he arrived here in 2015 as a forward for FC Juarez.

The Locos second match of the season on Saturday night is scheduled to kickoff at 730pm MST and will be televised on the CW locally and on ESPN+ nationally.
