Las Cruces Restraunteur Who Killed His Wife Will Survive His Injuries
Bob Yacone, the NYC transplant who opened an award-winning Italian restaurant, Forghdaboutit, is accused of murdering his wife Kim in their home.
Dona Ana County Sherriff’s deputies responded after getting a call from the couple’s 21-year-old son saying his mother was dead and he believed his father might be thinking of killing himself.
After responding to the home police were informed that the elder Mr. Yacone might still be somewhere in the house. Yacone was discovered on a balcony with a handgun.
An adult daughter in New York reportedly said that her father had called her and confessed to shooting their mother. About an hour after the initial 911 call, police say Yacone, 59, exchanged gunfire with three deputies and was struck multiple times.
Yacone was transported to a hospital and it now seems he will survive his injuries. Yacone has been charged with first-degree murder and for possessing a firearm as a felon.
In the few short years, the Yacone’s have been in Las Cruces, they had become as well known for their controversies as they had for their culinary awards. Controversies that included loud arguments in front of clients, social media posts some found offensive, and repeated criminal complaints against Mr. Yacone.
Yacone pleaded no contest to felony child abuse in 2014. He was accused of pointing a gun at a motorist during a road-rage incident in 2018. In 2020 he was arrested on a domestic battery charge which was later dropped.
In 2022, the Sherriff’s department responded to the couple’s home more than a dozen times for domestic disturbance.
During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, the Yacone’s hung a hand-made sign that read “BLAME CHINA!” outside their Deming location. In 2017, a help-wanted ad ran for Forghedaboudit which specified,
“No dreamers, homeless or IHOP people need apply”.
