It doesn't matter where you live in the world, everyone knows the name U2. If you live in Vegas, you certainly know they've given some amazing shows recently at The Sphere. But before they made Las Vegas their new place of residency, they would give the Borderland some amazing shows: Las Cruces, New Mexico & El Paso, Texas both got to experience the Irish superstars live.

When did U2 perform in Las Cruces?

Shortly after releasing their iconic 1987 album, The Joshua Tree, U2 would kick off their 1987 Joshua Tree tour in April. The tour started in Arizona, then to Houston to play at The Summit, and then they would travel to Las Cruces on April 10th, 1987 to play the Pan American Center. This would be the band's very first time performing in New Mexico; the concert was so memorable it became its own bootleg live cd complete with photos & liner notes.

There is a way to get physical copies of the same performance, but you can also hear the whole thing online too. Amazingly this remains the band's ONLY performance in the state of New Mexico.

U2 would finally perform in El Paso in 1992

Over 5 years later, U2 would make the UTEP Sun Bowl a stop on their 1992 Zoo TV Tour: October 27th, 1992. Over 35,000 fans packed the Sun Bowl to watch The Sugarcubes/Public Enemy & U2 together in El Paso. To this date it's still regarded as one of the biggest shows in Sun Bowl history.

Sadly at the time I'm writing this, those are the only times that U2 have been to Las Cruces & El Paso respectively. It's unknown if U2 WILL come back to either Las Cruces or El Paso, but at least we got to see them once! That's better than nothing.
