There's one part of Arizona that's super easy to find whether you have GPS or not. All you have to do is keep an eye out for these things.

Nope, I'm not talking about the rattlesnakes. Although western diamondbacks can top 6 feet, these suckers get WAY bigger and they, (probably), won't kill you.

The Sonoran Desert covers a pretty vast area from southern Arizona to the Mogollon Rim and also includes the southern corner of California, the Gulf of California, Baja California and all of Sonora, Mexico.

Only southern Arizona is home to the largest cactus in the world though, the Saguaro. Unless you want to sound like a tourist, forget that G ... it's pronounced suh - WAH - row and they only grow in that one specific region.

These bad boys average about 40 feet in height but the tallest ever recorded came in at almost 80'. They don't grow quickly either, it takes about 10 years for them to hit the 1 inch mark ... an INCH.

By 70 years of age, a saguaro cactus can reach 6 and a half feet tall, and will finally start to produce their first flowers. By 95-100 years in age, a saguaro cactus can reach a height of 15-16 feet, and could start to produce its first arm. They may grow an arm, they may grow 15, they may not grow any. No one knows why that is. They are held in very high regard by native Americans, some of whom view them as a form of humanity and not a plant at all.

They're super old, super tough and protected by law so, unless you have 20+ years to spend writing appeals, don't mess with 'em.
