Best 3 Places In El Paso To Celebrate National Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day
Yep, National Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day is really a thing and these are my pics for the best, locally owned, places to celebrate this tasty dish here in El Paso.
Chicken fried steak is a true, iconic Texas dish that, despite its name, has nothing to do with chicken. It's battered like fried chicken but there's no similarity after that.
The meat can be cube steak, a tenderized steak or a cheap cut that's been pounded really think with a meat mallet, breaded in a specially seasoned breading and slathered in an equally, specially seasoned and prepared white gravy. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it ...
The seasoning and makeup of the breading and the gravy are really the secret here as the meat is often, as mentioned above, a cheap cut. The goal here is to make an "ehh" cut of meat taste great. These places, in my humble opinion, take "great" to amazing.
You can get a chicken fried steak ... yes, chicken fried chicken is a thing now too and Bubba's 33, I must say, makes a pretty badass one ... but these El Paso restaurants take the steak to another level.
National Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day is October 26th, here are some locally owned places you should totally hit up. Whether it's 10/26 or not, seriously, you should still go try these ... like, now.
- The Edge Of Texas Steakhouse & Saloon - Located at 8691 Edge Of Texas ... yep, they got their own street ... in far northeast El Paso will amaze you witheir chicken fried steak. Pro Tip: Get it with green chili.
- Rib Hut - 3 locations, including a brand new west side location. The steak is amazing but, catch 'em in a good mood, and they'll chop it up into a gigantic baked potato. Yum.
- Four 80's - 480 Talbot in the upper valley. Great steak, great atmosphere and, if you go on the right day, you'll get a live band too. Bonus points for being pet friendly.
If you're traveling across Texas, a fair rule of thumb says just about any, true truck stop will do you right. Those are my top 3 El Paso joints; how about yours??
