A list of the most scenic campgrounds in Texas just came out and one is very close to El Paso.

Texas is loaded with state parks which is something to consider when you're planning your 2024 vacations and getaways. These are the most popular ones and here's how to get in free.

If you want to avoid crowds, consider these and, if you want to avoid cars, try this one. If camping's your thing, one of the best ones is pretty close to El Paso.

A travel website just released their list of the Texas state parks with the nicest camping areas. For El Pasoans, the closest one is in Fort Davis, about 3 hours east of El Paso.

In west Texas, the remote Davis Mountain State Park provides a scenic view of the state’s mountain peaks, with mountains as high as 8000 feet. Bike, hike, or horse ride along the meandering trails that pass through attractive ridges and valleys. When it comes to camping, select among the 26 sporting camps or the over 60 camps with electricity, or better, hike to the primitive campsites located 4 miles into the mountains. - thetravel.com

There's also a lot of cool stuff to do there including visiting Fort Davis, going to the McDonald Observatory and checking all the cool art stuff in Marfa along with the Marfa mystery lights.

It's an easy drive from El Paso to Davis Mountains State Park. You just take I-10 east to Van Horn, (about 123 miles), then take us - 90 east to highway 166 which will take you to the park. It's a little over 200 miles in all.
