Cause of Fire At Historic Texas Church Remains A Mystery
Back in July a historic church caught on fire in Dallas, and now we are learning that it may forever remain a mystery.
The fire that destroyed the historic sanctuary at First Baptist Church in Downtown Dallas occurred on July 19. The fire was a huge, four-alarm fire that gutted the old, historic sanctuary, but fire fighters were able to save the rest of the building. Since the fire, an investigation and clean-up effort have been on-going. Church officials want to preserve as much of the old sanctuary as possible.
Late last week, fire officials announced that the cause of the fire may remain a mystery.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Fire-Rescue says that the cause of the fire will remain "undetermined". That could change though if new information is ever presented.
“Based upon the totality of the investigation, the cause of fire which took place at the First Baptist Dallas Church will remain undetermined at this time due to the inability to definitively determine any competent ignition sources or sequence,” Evans said. “However we reserve the right to change or supplement this finding based on any new or additional information subsequently acquired.”
Church officials, according to the Dallas Morning News, were hoping that the investigation would be able to be concluded soon so they could move forward with demolition and clean out of the old sanctuary site.
How the latest finding will impact those decisions is not known yet.
