The greatest basketball player to ever lace 'em up, Michael Jeffrey Jordan, turns 49 years old today.  It's hard to fathom that MJ is almost 50, but nobody stays young forever.  Jordan is as much a brand and pseudo-deity as he is a human being anymore.  Nobody has inspired an entire generation of players more than 'His Airness.'

There are no shortage of MJ tributes on the interwebs, but I thought this best summed up what separated MJ from all the other greats who came before him.

If only MJ were as good in the front office as he was on the court.  He was fired from his job as the Wizards' president of basketball operations, and his 2011-2012 Charlotte Bobcats are on pace to go down as one of the worst teams in NBA history.

As we celebrate MJ's birthday today can we please keep one thing in its proper perspective; Michael Jordan did in fact miss shots in the fourth quarter and his Bulls teammates were not a collection of NAIA rejects that he magically transformed into 70 game winners!
