The inaugural Freakazoid Robots Festival at Ascarate Park will not be taking place this year after all.

Based on the recommendation from El Paso's Health Authority Doctor Hector Ocaranza, the music festival has been scrapped in the interest of public health.

The two day rave was scheduled to take place the Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day, and would have been the first Electronic Dance Music festival to take place at the county park in several years. The last time this type and this large of a music festival took place in El Paso was when Marshmello headlined the Sun City Music Festival at Ascarate Park in 2017.

Freakazoid Robots was to have featured three stages and over 50 of the world’s top dance, bass, and house and techno artists playing tasty beats on their laptop.

The decision to “postpone” the gathering “to a later date” on the advice of Dr. Ocaranza was made during the El Paso County Commissioners Court special session (Aug. 19). Although no further explanation was given or provided by Commissioners, event organizers alluded to unnamed safety concerns, which I assume were Covid-related.

The "Cancellation Statement" on the Freakazoid Robots website reads in part:

Dear fans,
We are saddened to announce that El Paso County health authorities and the El Paso County Commissioner’s Court, have determined it is unfeasible to produce Freakazoid Robots safely over Labor Day Weekend. Please know that the well-being of everyone is our primary concern. We look forward to seeing you again soon

The statement goes on to address ticket refunds and can be read in its entirety HERE.
