Bravos de FC Juarez played to a 1-1 draw last Friday night against Queretaro in their 2022 apertura home opener. Gabriel 'El Toro' Fernandez continued with his scoring streak with Bravos scoring the lone goal of the night for his side.

Bravos took the early lead in the sixth minute of the match on a corner kick that found Fernandez who just had to push the ball in with his right foot after Queretaro goalkeeper Washington Aguerre missed his ball when he tried to punch it out as it was approaching the six-yard goal box.

The advantage was short-lived as seven minutes later Jesus Silva sent in a long ball from his defensive sector to the offensive third. The ball took a precise bounce over Bravos goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera and found its way to the back of the net.

A complete error by Talavera.

FC Juarez was awarded a penalty kick in the 30th minute. The Bravos failed to capitalize on the situation as the kick that was taken by Fernandez was blocked by Aguerre. Referee Eduardo Basulto awarded another penalty kick to the home side in stoppage time, but that decision was overturned as a result of a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) review.

Queretaro was slightly better in the second half than FC Juarez, who went away from working as a team and began to depend on individual play. Queretaro demonstrated a bit more aggressiveness in attempting to get a second goal and in stoppage time they showed significantly more urgency in an attempt to get the match winning goal in the final moments than did Juarez.

After the match head coach Hernan Cristante said, "We had a good start to the match. We had control of the match, we had possession and were aggressive. We also suffered, the way they scored on us, the missed penalty kick. I think tonight the emotional aspect got to us and it is something we need to continue to work on. I think anxiety got the best of us and disrupted our execution tonight. We have to work and improve on that."
