Bravos de FC Juarez obtained their first victory in Mexico's premiere soccer division by defeating Toluca 2-0. The historic result for the Bravos was witnessed by 18,117 fans at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium on Sunday evening, an evening that saw the the local side play the best 90-minutes of soccer in the this early stage of the 2019 apertura season.

There is a school of thought that says 2-0 is the most deceptive score in soccer. There have been more times than I can count where teams squander a 2-0 lead and have the match end in a draw or a loss.

There was absolutely no chance of that happening last night.

The 2-0 win by the team from the Borderland was thorough 2-0. An easy and convincing victory where FC Juarez was simply better than their opponent in every aspect.

The evening began with the Bravos flying the flag that they fly at every home game at half-staff to pay respect for the victims of the mass shooting that took place in El Paso on Saturday morning. A minute of silence was also held prior to the start of the match.

The match would get off to a quick start as the Bravos had their first threat on goal in the first couple of minutes. That same kind of pressure would be applied consistently until the 17th minute when Mauro Fernandez would make a run into the opposing goalbox and get the ball past Toluca goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera.

The start of the second half would be the same as the first. FC Juarez continued with the intensity it they showed in the first 45 minutes and it would quickly pay dividends when Angelo Nicolas Sagal took a left footed strike from a little more than 25 yards out and placed the ball in the upper left hand corner.

Up until the end of the match, FC Juarez was closer to scoring their 3rd goal than Toluca was to scoring their first of the match.

The win places the Bravos in 14th place in the general standings table with 3 points in 3 matches.

After the match Bravos head coach, Gabriel Caballero commented, “The result of this match leaves me very happy for obtaining these first 3 points of the season in this first match at home. It leaves happy because tonight's performance is representative of what we have been wanting to execute on the field of play as a soccer team.”

However, this victory will be short-lived as the Bravos will return to action on Tuesday in their opening match of the Copa MX at home against 2nd division team Venados FC. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 8pm MST.
