This week, Dr. Louis Zúñiga of Fyzical Therapy Balance and Hand Centers talks to us about a challenge his staff began a few weeks ago that resulted in thousands of dollars being donated to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank. It's a challenge he'd also like to issue to every business in the Borderland.

A member of Dr. Zúñiga's staff came to him after hearing about the food bank's plight on KLAQ, as El Pasoans affected by the fallout from the novel coronavirus pandemic were lining up for hours just to get food to eat.

He wondered if the doctor and the management of FYZICAL was up for a challenge –– match any dollar amount he and his fellow employees were to raise to benefit El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.

Interestingly, that employee's challenge came right after Dr. Zúñiga had just driven by the food bank's meal pickup line –– a line so large it had grabbed his attention and hadn't let go by the time he got to work.

Dr. Z was all in.

In just over a week, FYZICAL's staff raised $2,600. Dr. Zúñiga and FYZICAL matched it to make the grand total $5,200.

Then, when the El Paso Community Foundation heard about what FYZICAL had done, EPCF raised even more money to add to the total.

This El Paso version of the snowball effect got Dr. Zúñiga to wonder: if FYZICAL could do this in just over a week, what might other El Pasoans do if they asked their employers to match what they raise?

Let's hope we find out!
