ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Cornell University officials say its men's lacrosse team has been placed on temporary suspension for its fall season because of a hazing incident earlier this month.

Athletic Director Andy Noel announced Thursday that the team was placed on temporary suspension on Sept. 13. He says after an investigation into the incident, coach Ben DeLuca and his team were notified that all fall competitions are canceled.

Details of the hazing haven't been released. A Cornell spokesman told the Ithaca Journal that the hazing involved "coerced consumption" of alcohol by underage freshmen players.

Cornell went 14-4 last spring and lost to eventual national champion Duke in the NCAA semifinals.

Noel says the team was allowed to resume training and practice on Thursday in accordance with the university's sanction guidelines.
