The Center for Disease Control is now recommending we all wear a cloth face mask when we go outside to protect against coronavirus, and El Paso Mayor Dee Margo is down with that advice.

During Monday’s news conference, Margo encouraged residents to wear face coverings “when they have to go out in public; for example, to the grocery store or to pick up any other necessities.”

He stressed the cloth face cover should not be a substitute for social distancing, and that El Pasoans “continue to keep six feet between yourself and others.” He added wearing one was only a recommendation, not a mandate.

No face mask, no problem. Check out the city approved DIY protective gear you can make from the comfort of the home you've been mandated to stay in.

All you need is the time many of us have a lot of these days and a t-shirt, cotton fabric, or coffee filter. Not the safety we need, but the safety we deserve.
