Wanna Celebrate New Years Eve? Don’t Do It With Gunfire In Texas

Firing your gun in the air to celebrate is not only unwise, it's also illegal. Oddly, the penalty for firing across a roadway carries a lighter charge.

What goes up, must come down, right? That applies to bullets too and it doesn't matter how straight you fire it, you can never really be 100% sure where it will land.

The odds of it hitting a person may not be super high but, there is a chance you might so, don't do it.

It's not only dangerous and kind of stupid, in the lone star state it's illegal.

Right now, celebratory or reckless gunfire is illegal in Texas cities with a population of 100,000 or more. It's a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000.

State Rep. Armando Martinez introduced House Bill 1138 last week to address celebratory gunfire. If House Bill 1138 passes this year, it would expand the current law to all areas of Texas, no matter the size. - kvue.com

Firing across a road ... where you are, presumably, more likely to hit someone ... is only a class "C" misdemeanor according to the Texas Tribune.

Basically, you get a ticket.

According to the video above, celebratory gunfire during a wedding in Serbia once brought down a small plane.

Bottom line, if you have to fire your gun to celebrate something, do it miles into the country or find a shooting range. Even then, don't shoot up.

It may hurt someone in either case and it will definitely rile up the gun range's owner.
