With the school year underway, a new report details the best school districts in our area.

The list was released by the research company Niche, which specializes in analyzing public data and reviews “to produce comprehensive rankings, report cards, and profiles for every K-12 school [and] college…in the U.S.”

For the third consecutive year, the Ysleta Independent School District sits at the top of the Best School Districts in the El Paso Area rankings.

Of the 10 school districts in and around El Paso, only YISD and the Socorro Independent School District achieved an “A” letter grade. Each was awarded an A minus, but YISD won out based on a methodology I won’t even pretend to understand or try to make sense of.

The largest district in the area, El Paso ISD, scored a B+ resulting in a #5 ranking. The lowest score by any district in the area was a C plus.

Ranking factors used included state test scores, graduation rates, and SAT/ACT scores as well as more subjective criteria, such as survey responses and reviews from parents, students and Niche users.
