Another Amarillo Building that Seems to Be Cursed – 1915 East I-40
Driving around Amarillo, you may see a business you haven't seen before--and start wondering what all has been in that building before.
Some businesses are lucky enough to have one building they can call home, but there are some buildings that just seem to be a revolving door for temporary tenants.
Welcome! It's time for another installation of what we call: Amarillo's Cursed Buildings. There's no ghosties, goblins, or things that give you a fright, there's just an endless stream of businesses that seem to appear and disappear overnight.
Today's cursed building is 1915 East I-40. This building is on the access road of I-40 just before you get to Ross Street.
Let's look at the history of this building.
Back in the day--and I do mean way back--I believe that this building was originally a Kettle Restaurant.
Amco Auto Insurance
At one point in time, this building was an insurance agency. It looks like it was opened in 1998 and sold in 2004.
The building was sad and empty for a very long time.
The weeds took over the parking lot and it became quite the concrete jungle at times.
The weeds are dead but the half-circle sign is falling apart
By now the half-circle sign is almost gone, but a message for Step Dad is looming.
Rancho Viejo opened in January 2018. One of the best dishes they served was the gorditas. They were so good. Rancho Viejo left the building in 2020.
2021 Wings and More
Not long after Rancho Viejo moved out Wings and More moved in. It served wings, burgers, and other great dishes. It featured a breakfast buffet every weekend. It lasted about a year.
Here we are in 2023, and the current occupant of the building is Señor Braceros. This business opened very recently. If this place follows the success of other Braceros restaurants in town, they'll be here for quite some time.
Shall the curse be broken? Or shall it remain forevermore?
