El Paso is one step closer to having affiliated baseball for the first time in nearly a decade. Following the 'If you build it they will come' model made popular in the 1989 film 'Field of Dreams,' the El Paso City Council voted 6-2 this afternoon to approve funding for a ballpark that will occupy the very site the votes were cast.
Yesterday was a huge day for El Paso. Once the city council posted Tuesday's agenda on its website, the city was buzzing over the news that the council will vote on a proposal to build a downtown ballpark.
