Another week of high school football in the Sun City is getting ready to kick-off, as school districts continue to maneuver through this season despite challenges with the pandemic.
The long days of 7-on-7 drills and summer workouts are finally behind us, as the 2018 high school football season is here on the borderland. District 1-6A champions El Dorado hosted Amarillo Tascosa on Friday night in the Bi-District round of the Texas high school playoffs, and was outmatched by the run heavy Rebels who won with ease 66-40. Cameron Candelaria threw for over 300 yards and the Franklin Cougars wrapped up a share of the District 1-5A title, earning the top seed in the Class 5A "big school" playoff race with a 48-34 win over the El Dorado Aztecs. The game will be replayed on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel 24 Sunday at noon.

Our N3L Optics game of the week lived up to the hype of being the top game in the city as El Dorado defeated Coronado 33-28. The Aztecs were heavily favored going into the contest, and looked to run away with the game by taking an early 13-0 lead in the first quarter.
After eleven weeks the high school football season is over and we can look ahead to the playoffs. All our 5-A schools are out of town while we will have four 4-A games here on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
From the news on 5ATexasFootball.com's twitter feed (@5ATXFB), 600 ESPN El Paso has been able to confirm from sources at El Paso ISD that El Dorado high school has self-reported using an ineligible player for its final two district games to the University Interscholastic League, the governing body for Texas public school competitions and sports.
It's hard to believe, but we have reached the final week of the regular season. All the playoff spots are locked down in 1-4A and 1-5A. Canutillo, Horizon, and Ysleta are all vying for the final two spots in 2-4A. It should be a fun final week....
