At the start of the 2011 season, the biggest question surrounding the New York Yankees was their starting pitching. How ironic that the reason the team lost the American League Division Series to Detroit was because of their lack of hitting.

Christian Lopez is a very ordinary man who wound up with something extraordinary at Yankee Stadium this afternoon.  Derek Jeter's became the second player in MLB history (Wade Boggs) to hit a home run for his 3,000th hit.  Lopez, a 23 year old cell phone salesman from Highland Mills, N.Y. wound up with the ball when it went through his father's hands.

Derek Jeter has always had a flare for the dramatic.  He has never been one to shy away from a big stage or big moment.  Despite career low numbers in just about every offensive category, Jeter made his historic day count.
