For the first time since 2015, UTEP is competitively relevant again in football. It's been seven years since the program made a bowl game. On Saturday, the Miners (5-1, 2-0 C-USA) have a chance to punch their bowl eligibility ticket if they get past a tough LA Tech squad (2-3, 1-0 C-USA).
The expectations have brought us up to this point when UTEP hosts New Mexico (2-1) on Saturday at the Sun Bowl to wrap up non-conference play. Now, the Miners are at a fork in the road for their young season.
UTEP got off to a fast start in the Battle of I-10 and never looked back, downing NM State 30-3 to snap a three-game losing streak in the rivalry game on Saturday night in front of 19,034 fans at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
