In the two plus months since LSU and Alabama played the 'game of the century' I've heard it all; Alabama couldn't even beat LSU at home.  Alabama didn't even win their own conference.  Heck, Alabama didn't even win their own division (that was also LSU)...

Second-ranked Alabama avenged its only loss of the season in a big way, shutting out #1 LSU, 21-0, in the Allstate BCS Championship Game Monday night. Alabama’s defense, which came into the game ranked first nationally in virtually every major category, showed just why it deserves to be national champions, holding the Tigers to just 92 total yards and five first downs while pitching the first shut

These two teams played each other in Tuscaloosa in early November, with LSU eking out a 9-6 overtime win after Alabama missed its fourth field goal of the game during the extra period. But aside from that close finish, no one has come close to matching LSU this season.

SEC powerhouses Louisiana State and Alabama rank first and second  in the first BCS poll of the year. In-state and Big 12 rivals Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are third and fourth, with Boise State rounding out the top five.

Since the 1982 season ended, one of the constants in college football had been a seemingly perpetual dominance by the Florida schools. In the last 29 years, Florida, Florida State and Miami took up residence at the top of the college football polls and won nine national championships in that stretch. I'll be the first to admit, I prefer the NFL to college football.  Mostly because college football fans annoy me, although the NFL has it's share of knucklehead fan bases (see Eagles, Philadelphia).  However,  I can get as charged up as any face-painting, beer guzzling college fan for a national championship game.
