The El Paso Chihuahuas scored two first inning runs against Las Vegas Thursday and never looked back in their 7-4 win over the 51s. Michael Nix had his second straight strong start after being signed by the San Diego Padres, pitching six innings and allowing only one run. Blaine Boyer pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth El Paso save.

 

Andrew Brown hit a first-inning home run for Las Vegas, plating a 51s first-inning run for the fifth time in six games in El Paso. The Chihuahuas scored twice in the first on Travis Buck’s sacrifice fly and Jake Goebbert’s RBI triple. El Paso struck three straight hits to begin the bottom of the sixth, including an RBI double by pinch-hitter Jonathan Galvez, who later scored on Jeff Francoeur’s sacrifice fly to first baseman Allan Dykstra. It was the second time in a week a Chihuahuas’ runner scored on a sacrifice fly to an infielder.

 

Cody Decker went 3-for-4 with a walk in the win, while Goebbert and Alex Castellanos had two hits each. Thursday was the 16th sellout at Southwest University Park in 19 games.

 

Jake Goebbert put the Chihuahuas ahead 2-1 in the first with this RBI triple.

 

In the sixth inning Jonathan Galvez had an RBI double and scored on a shallow Sac Fly from Jeff Francoeur.

 

Alex Castellanos drove in a run in the seventh with this double.

 

After a Jason Lane double, Adam Moore doubled in Lane to seal the 7-4 win in the eighth.
