You’re invited to a baby shower that will be the first-ever for the El Paso Zoo!

Back in April, Gigi gave birth to a 6-foot, 110-pound male giraffe making it the first time a giraffe has been born at the El Paso Zoo in the city’s history.

“This birth is significant not only for the El Paso Zoo but also for the overall giraffe population,” said El Paso Zoo Director Joe Montisano. “Giraffes are now extinct in seven African countries and all giraffe species are critically endangered.”

The name of the newborn giraffe has not yet been revealed, but earlier this month El Paso Zoo officials asked the public to weigh in on the name of the new baby by holding a poll between three possible names that included Obi, Dakari, or Tesoro.

The results from that poll have not yet been revealed but maybe, just maybe they’ll be revealed at the official baby shower which will happen Saturday, May 27th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. right outside of the Giraffe exhibit.

Guests will be able to enjoy baby shower-style games, activities for the kids, and raffle prizes along with a chance to learn more about Giraffes thanks to the El Paso Zoo staff.

DeadBeach Brewery will also be at the event to talk about their new ConCerveza Beer.
