El Paso Downtown Art and Farmers Market Staying Put on the Far East Side For the Summer
As the showbiz saying goes, "held over by popular demand."
The El Paso Downtown Art and Farmers Market, which usually calls the Union Plaza District home, is staying put at the Beast Urban Park through the summer months.
Summer Stay
The temporary relocation was originally only going to be through June 3 while the city dealt with the uncertainty of the migrant situation, but the short-term move to the Far East side regional park is now an extended stay.
Increased attendance and a preference by vendors to stay at that location longer were among the reasons why city staff decided to extend the market’s Far East run, according to District 5 City Representative Isabel Salcido’s office.
So, don’t go downtown to support local vendors at the El Paso Downtown Art and Farmers Market for the next couple of months. They won't be there. The Beast will be DAFM’s interim home away from home every Saturday in June and July from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Beast Urban Park
The Beast, located inside the Eastside Regional Recreation Center at 13501 Jason Crandall, is the largest developed park in the city; approximately twice as big as Eastwood (Album) Park. Its sheer size alone should tell you why they chose to name it The Beast Urban Park
Its mammoth acreage includes a community center, and a natatorium, which is a fancy way to describe an indoor swimming pool. This particular one houses a 50-meter competition-ready pool with a diving well and pool deck space for 400 competitors, as well as seating for up to 800 spectators.
The recreation center has a gymnasium, indoor walking/running track, basketball court, computer room, and a rec game room.
It is also the home of Oasis Waterpark, which features Flash Flood Rush. The surfing water attraction is the only one of its kind in all of West Texas and Southern New Mexico.
