Drinking Topo Chico In Texas? Better Read This
Topo Chico and Dr Pepper are practically the official soft drinks of Texas. 1 batch of Topo Chico sold in Texas may contain a potentially deadly bacterium.
While thirsty peeps in the lone star state guzzle Topo Chico like it's, well, water, it is actually a product of Mexico. The water is sourced solely from wells in Monterrey, Mexico now just as it has been since 1895.
Coca Cola, whose role in bottling Topo Chico goes back to the 1920's has now issued a recall for some bottles that were sold by Costco stores in several states including Texas and New Mexico.
The tainted bottles have a "lot code" of #13A2541. If you or someone you know has one, you can return it to your area Costco and get a full refund. The contaminant is a bacterium that's actually pretty common in water known as Pseudomonas.
What Happens If You Drink Pseudomonas?
Typically, not much really. For people with healthy immune systems that is, it can be deadly for those people who are immunocompromised according to statesman.com. Symptoms of ingestion include chills, fever, muscle pain, headache, hearing loss, vision loss, nausea, vomiting and difficulty in breathing among, (many), other things.
Other states that received the tainted shipments of Topo Chico were Louisiana, Arizona, Nevada. As of right now, there have been no reported illnesses related to the Topo Chico lot being recalled. The lot number for the product being recalled is, once again, #13A2541.
