One of Texas’ Most Famous Landmarks Called a Disappointment
Texas is full of historic landmarks that are worth checking out in person. But according to people online, one very famous landmark is an extreme disappointment. All you need to do is travel to San Antonio and Remember...The Alamo. Or for some people, remember and that's it.
Why is The Alamo so "disappointing" to visit?
There have been many new stories from both international news agencies, and national news agencies, that have said The Alamo is regarded as one of the most disappointing to visit. Not just in Texas, but the United States as a whole. But why?
Many people have called the experience of visiting The Alamo "boring", "underwhelming" and overall... "a disappointing landmark" to visit. Although I personally think I might have some "reasons" why the Alamo is so "disappointing".
Ozzy never actually peed on the Alamo's building.
Yes, we've heard the stories before, we also heard about Ozzy being banned from the city of San Antonio in 1982. While, yes, Ozzy did pee AT the Alamo, he urinated on the Cenograph, ACROSS from the Alamo. The Cenograph was built in 1939 to honor the dead, so I definitely understand why people got upset. But those who wanted to see WHERE Ozzy pee on the Alamo might be disappointed to know this factoid.
There is NO basement at the Alamo...or is there?
Yes if you've watched Pee-wee's Big Adventure, you probably remember the scene where he went to visit the Alamo with expectations to find...the basement.
Yeah, there's actually no basement there...except there is. But not open to the public. According to Reddit, it's actually found underneath the gift shop, but...it's only for people who work there. So yes... the basement DOES exist but we're not allowed down there.
Finally, The Alamo is... well it's quite old.
Now I don't mind seeing historic buildings at all but this seems to be one of the biggest complaints people have according to those who left a review on TripAdvisor. It's awesome to get a photo of the building and...that's it.
Of course, that's not the case for EVERYONE who goes there. There are still (literally) thousands of people who recommend going to visit. I went there as a kid & I thought it was pretty fun.
But everyone's got a different opinion so my advice is, go there for yourself. Don't let others influence your expectations or thoughts on wanting to go. It IS a piece of Texas history so it's worth going, even if it's just one time.
