Texas lawmakers just passed a bill calling for warning labels on several very popular snack food items.

Senate Bill 25 is now headed for Governor Greg Abbott's desk and, if and when he signs it, calls for warning labels on pretty much every food item that isn't fresh.

The bill would also impact certain drinks.

Foods containing certain food additives like food coloring agents, bleached flour and crazy chemical compounds may soon have labels placed on them warning consumers about them.

What Foods May Be Labeled?

According to KHOU, these guys::

  • Cheetos, Doritos and other chips
  • M&Ms, gummies and most other candy
  • Frozen treats like ice cream and popsicles
  • Processed baked goods like Toaster Strudel, Pop-Tarts, cookies and cakes
  • Packaged breads
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Processed meats and cheese
  • Drinks like Red Bull, Mountain Dew, Kool-Aid, Gatorade and more.

Again, pretty much anything that isn't a fruit, vegetable or made from additive free scratch. I don't really see this as a big deal, we've all known forever that most of that stuff isn't really good for us.

I seriously doubt someone is going to read a warning, say OMG, this contains titanium dioxide and immediately quit eating it but that's what many food manufacturers and stores are worried about.  Companies like Walmart, KraftHeinz and Coca Cola have written letters to Texas politicos asking them to get the warning label clause in SB 25 removed.
