Hole-in-One Hero Michael Block Swings into Texas This Weekend

With all due respect to now 3-time PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, it was an average Joe who stole the show in the golf season's second major of the year. And now because of that, golf fans in Texas have a chance to see him up close and personal.

Every golf fan, or at least anyone who watched enough of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill, knows who I'm talking about.

His name: Michael Block.

The club pro at a public course in California qualified for the PGA Championship. He's not a professional player on the tour. He's just a guy who gives lessons for a living and makes sure customers at his course are happy.

But then he made the cut.

And then he kept making incredible shots.

And then he got paired with freaking Rory McIlroy in the final round.

AND THEN HE DID THIS:

Yeah, the guy hit a hole-in-one.

It's every golfer's dream, but it also came at a really critical time. He was +2 before he hit the shot. It lowered his score back to E. But after a par save on the last hole, Block finished in a tie for 15th. That means he automatically qualifies for next year's major.

But wait, it gets better!

Shortly after his round, he received this call:

So, instead of heading back home with the fairy tale story, there is another chapter to write. He's headed to the Lone Star State to play in another professional tournament thanks to an exemption.

Pretty smart move, if you ask me, grabbing the best storyline of the weekend and inserting him into your golf tournament that most would otherwise not care much about.

Now there are sure to be a lot more eyes on Texas this weekend at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth.
