Some packets of crab meat have been recalled due to the fear of contamination with potentially deadly organisms. The FDA made a statement Monday, saying the 1-pound tubs of crab meat, jumbo, lump, finger, and claw meat may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes. Listeria Monocytogenes is a serious infection usually caused by eating contaminated food with a bacterium. This infection can cause fever, diarrhea, loose stool, and death. Irvington Seafood is where the contaminated shellfish is produced, and the firm itself is based out of Alabama and distributed in Mississippi.

No illnesses have been reported just the discovery of the sample testing of listeria in the shellfish. Texans need to be aware of this because thousands of individuals who live in the Great State order their seafood from out of state. Some individuals like to pick up their seafood from the bayous of Louisiana, maybe the coast of Galveston, and even sometimes Alabama. This matter pertains to all of us, especially when it’s a recall. Texas please check with the FDA before purchasing anything outside the great state.
