The Interact Club at Hanks High School is having their annual "Hanksgiving," where they gather donations to help 500 families in the borderland have a Thanksgiving meal. This is their 19th year hosting the "Hanksgiving" food drive and they are asking for the community's help in gathering donations. The families are chosen through 8 counselors and donations are also split between 7 to 8 shelters in the area.

Here are some of the items they are hoping to collect:

  • Green beans
  • Cream of mushroom
  • Cream of chicken
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Gravy mix
  • Stuffing
  • Evaporated milk
  • Cornbread
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Mixed veggies
  • Sweet peas
  • Other non-perishable food donation

One of the main objectives currently for the group is the need to secure an organization that is willing to help with supplying turkeys for the Thanksgiving baskets.

You can drop off your "Hanksgiving" donations at Hanks High School in the ROTC or in Room 100. Drop-offs to Room 100 are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The last day to drop off donations is on Thursday, November 21st at 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions about "Hanksgiving" or how to donate, please call Monica Lopez at (915) 434-5014 or email at mlopez17@yisd.net.
