The season is still early, but some trends are starting to show. Americas, El Dorado, Franklin, and Montwood look like they will be the cream of 1-5A. Riverside is as exciting as anyone. Burges and Horizon look like they will be for real, while Austin appears to be on the way back. Del Valle should climb back up the rankings. Traditional powers Coronado and Canutillo are struggling to find offense.

1

Americas

2-0

The Trailblazers spanked Onate 62-14. They will get a real test opening up their 1-5A schedule at Franklin Friday night.

2

El Dorado

2-0

The Aztecs needed another late rally to down Lubbock Coronado 21-16. El Dorado will host 0-2 Hanks on Friday.

3

Franklin

1-1

The Cougars fell 41-35 in five overtimes to their new rivals, the San Angelo Central Bobcats. Franklin is rewarded by getting Jack Fields and the number one Americas Trailblazers.

4

Riverside

2-0

The Rangers out gunned Hanks 44-37. Riverside will host the resurgent Burges Mustangs on Friday.

5

Montwood

1-1

Chuck Veliz found a quarterback. Angel Garcia threw for 439 yards and five touchdowns in the Rams 49-48 win over Las Cruces Mayfield. Montwood will host struggling Bel Air on Thursday.

6

Burges

2-0

With talented skill players, the Mustangs are back in the El Paso high school scene. Burges will get a real challenge traveling to Riverfront Stadium to take on Brian Hinojo and the Riverside Rangers.

7

Horizon

2-0

Patrick Rossy is a real playmaker under center for the Scorpions. He was solid in Horizon's 21-20 overtime victory over El Paso High. The Scorps will try and sting Andress Friday night.

8

Austin

2-0

With another convincing victory the Panthers find themselves back in the poll for the first time since the undefeated season of 2008. They will travel to Conquest Stadium to take on an angry Del Valle team Friday night.

9

Del Valle

1-1

The Conquistadores took a huge fall after not showing up in Midland. Despite the bad loss to a loaded Bulldog team, Del Valle is still expected to be a top five team toward the end of the season. The Conquistadores will look to take out some frustration on 2-0 Austin.

10

Andress

1-1

The Eagles are back in the poll after steamrolling Socorro 55-21. Showing an old dog can learn new tricks, Andress coach Allan Sepkowitz abandoned the run and let quarterback Ryan Metz throw for five touchdowns in the win. Andress will host Horizon on Friday.
