Bravos de FC Juarez defeated Zacatepec on Saturday night by a score of 2-1 in Ascenso MX league play at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium. The win came literally in the last play of the match when Leandro Carrijo successfully kicked a penalty kick that had been awarded to the Bravos in the last minute of stoppage time. With this latest victory the Bravos remain undefeated on the 2018 apertura season (7 wins, 2 ties, 0 losses).

Bravos took the lead in the 29th minute when Carrijo headed a ball past the Zacatepec goalkeeper off of a pass from Gabriel Hachen. The visiting side then evened the score in the 50th minute when Carlos Alberto Zamora scored off a header that came from a corner kick.

The match would intensify for the remaining 40 minutes with both teams producing an ample amount of chances to score, but in the end the offensive pressure that was rewarded was that of the Bravos when a penalty kick was rightfully awarded to them.

This win gives the team from the Borderland 23 points on the season, good enough for 2nd place in the general standings table, one point behind first place Atlante. However, it should be noted Atlante has played 10 games this season with the Bravos have played 9 up to this point.

Up next for the Bravos will be the quarterfinal match versus Cruz Azul in the Copa MX in Mexico City on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm MST.
