Here's my exclusive interview with former UTEP assistant basketball coach Brian Burton, who was fired...last week.
You won't hear any scorched earth stuff. Burton won't say a bad word about Rodney Terry or UTEP, but the Plano native was clearly surprised at Terry's decision.
The fallout has perhaps already cost the Miners a commitment from San Antonio high school star shooting guard Brendan Wenzel. Interestingly, Wenzel's tweet announcing his de-commitment was favorited by another star recruit, Spring Woods' Jesse Zarzuela.

Per Burton, his dismissal apparently predates the forced resignation of Lamont Smith, who leaves after the University of San Diego announced that, as head coach at USD, Smith was caught up in the federal investigation of college admissions cheating.

No telling who Terry will hire in Burton's place, but with recruiting all but done for now he's not under a huge rush. It'll be interesting to see who UTEP brings in and when.
