EL PASO, TX – 600 ESPN El Paso announced today that former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek will headline El Paso’s Sports and Health Expo 2011. The free event will take place on Sunday, April 3rd from 11am until 5pm at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Sports and Health Expo 2011 will feature thousands of square feet of total sports! In addition, live horse racing at Sunland Park Racetrack will be held during the event.

Novacek was drafted in the sixth round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. After spending five seasons with the Cardinals, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a Plan B free agent. Novacek was a key contributor for Dallas in the early 1990s, assisting them to three Super Bowl wins in four seasons. In those games, he recorded a combined total of 17 receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Novacek, who hadn't played a game since Super Bowl XXX in 1996, officially retired from the NFL on July 15, 1997 due to a lingering back injury. In his 11 seasons, Novacek recorded 422 receptions for 4,630 yards and 30 touchdowns. Novacek was a five time Pro Bowler, who was selected to play each year from 1991 through 1995. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

“We’re very excited to bring Jay Novacek to El Paso to headline our 2011 Sports and Health Expo,” said Brad Dubow, General Manager of Townsquare Media of El Paso. “He was a big part of the great Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 1990s and was always a fan favorite.”

El Paso’s Sports and Health Expo 2011 will feature free health screenings, consultations, sports card and collectors’ tables, and sports-related retailers will exhibit and sell sporting goods, apparel, and much, much more. 2011 also marks the return of boxing exhibitions, featuring boxers ages 8-21, and up to 20 sanctioned bouts.

UTEP athletics and professional sports teams will also be participating at Sports and Health Expo 2011. Admission is free. Autographs for Novacek will be priced at $10 each for flat items and $25 each for deluxe items. Part of the proceeds from Sports and Health Expo 2011 will benefit various local charities.
